However, I found searching for the field (or topic or career) of science you are interested in will take you to professional organizaton websites that provide great information. I could not begin to list all of them here.
American Associaton for the Advancement of Science. An actual job search engine to put you in touch with real employers but it has descriptions and articles about being a scientist in academic or industrial work environments.

American Physiology Society Helpful information for people of all ages about how to become a physiologist.
National Health Museum. Featuring science career information and links to scientists explaining their work.
