Thinking about a future in science? Ever wonder just what scientists do every day? Or what it takes to prepare for a science career? Scientists study everything from hearts and viruses to jellyfish and Martian soils. They work everywhere from the lab to the rain forest to outer space.

If you’re thinking about a science career, these websites could have some helpful information for you. However, I found searching for the field (or topic or career) of science you are interested in will take you to professional organizaton websites that provide great information. I could not begin to list all of them here.

American Associaton for the Advancement of Science. An actual job search engine to put you in touch with real employers but it has descriptions and articles about being a scientist in academic or industrial work environments.

Explore Careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Want to know more about careers in science, technology, engineering, or math? Browse through detailed information on over 100 careers to discover what scientists really do and what it takes to prepare for these careers. Each career profile provides basic career information such as salary, job outlook, degree requirements, etc. They have also included videos featuring interviews with real scientists or on the job profiles.

American Physiology Society Helpful information for people of all ages about how to become a physiologist.

National Health Museum. Featuring science career information and links to scientists explaining their work.

NASA A list of many different science professions, and how they relate to getting a job with NASA. Here is the link for space scientists.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Has links to other helpful science resources, and explains science career choices.
